‘I haven’t felt valued enough’ - Prolific Barca teen explains decision to leave

Promising Barcelona striker Hugo Alba is set to leave the club this summer and looks set to sign for OFK Belgrade.

The 19-year-old bagged 28 goals last season for the U19s, and was part of the [UEFA Youth League winning side](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/4/28/24419553/ibrahim-diarra-dazzles-as-barcelona-storm-to-victory-in-uefa-youth-league-final), but is moving on due to a lack of opportunities.

Alba spoke about his decision and says he feels he deserved to have been given a first-team chance by Hansi Flick.

> “I haven’t felt as valued as I think I deserved. I’ll never have a bad word to say about Barça, but I would have liked to participate in a first-team training session because I think I personally earned the opportunity, and it didn’t come my way,” he said, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

>

> It’s difficult, but also seeing that the reserve team had a lot of striker losses and they were in the relegation zone... I have no answer for that; it’s been a strange situation. I haven’t felt valued enough. These are internal club issues that are unknown. I think I deserved to go up.

>

> “Surely, when Barça offered you a renewal, I would have thought about it more. But seeing the last two seasons, how they’ve treated me, we made the decision with my family and my agent.”

Alba did have some kind words for Juliano Belletti and then explained his decision to head to Belgrade.

> “It came from a game against Red Star in the UEFA Youth League . I had a very good game and my agent told me they were watching me, it’s a team that wants me, they’ve always been there,” he added.

>

> “When you see that a team trusts you, you say go for it. They told me they were keeping the ‘9’ for me. I had other offers, but it was my decision, my family’s, my agent’s, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. It’s a new project, you have to take a step and take a risk.”

The teenager is now set to sign a three-year contract with the Serbian side and will hope to show what he can do at his new club.
