Montreal North hosts viewing party as local NBA stars face off in finals

The community of Montreal North came together Friday evening to watch two of its own compete on basketball’s biggest stage.

NBA players Luguentz Dort and Bennedict Mathurin, both raised in the borough, faced off in the NBA Finals as the Oklahoma City Thunder took on the Indiana Pacers.

Fans gathered at Parc Pilon, at the intersection of Henri-Bourassa and Pie-IX boulevards, for a public outdoor screening of Game 4.

The event kicked off at 7:30 p.m. with a DJ, live animation, and a community BBQ, ahead of the game’s broadcast at 8:30 p.m.

Organized in collaboration with the Montreal North Basketball Club, the Centre artistique Uni-Son ensemble, and Black Inc., the evening brought residents together to celebrate a rare moment of local pride.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their own chairs and enjoy the game in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.

It was a significant occasion for the borough — two players who grew up in Montreal North competing in the NBA Finals is a moment few communities can claim.
