PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Graceville alum Champ Kelly didn’t take long to bounce back from a bit of a career setback. His career within NFL team management has taken him to Miami.
Champ after graduating Kentucky and a season of indoor ball, began his career in management eventually working for the Broncos, Bears and Raiders. Kelly was the assistant G.M. in Vegas before owner Mark Davis fired most of his upper management after last season. So, Champ wound up moving back to the Sunshine State and a job with the Dolphins!
“I am currently the Senior Personnel Executive for the Miami Dolphins. You know getting the chance to work in my home state is a dream come true and a blessing for me and my family. And I’m just truly excited to get a chance to learn more about the Dolphin tradition. And to help Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel build a solid roster.” Kelly said.
Kelly’s job has him assisting Grier, Miami’s G.M., with both pro and college scouting. I spoke to Champ in advance of him hosting his 16th C.H.A.M.P. Camp next Friday and Saturday at Tommy Oliver. His losing his job a few months ago just part of the business that Kelly accepts. And it’s a lesson he says he brings to his camp!
“Yeah, you know Scott, what I tell our campers is I don’t have a bad day. Every day is a good day for me. So regardless of decision, regardless of career transition, losses, when things don’t go your way, I’m still obedient to the Word and I praise and I thank God every day that I wake up and see the blades and not the roots, it’s a good day! So, I’m smiling, I’m excited to get down with the Dolphins and it’s fins up for me and my family, we’re ready to rock.” Kelly said.
