Liverpool’s long chase for Florian Wirtz looks all but over, with one final step left — his medical.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that all documents between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are now “sealed,” saying, “It’s here we go since Tuesday… fully sealed in paper.”

Wirtz is expected to fly in for his medical once his summer break ends. And unless someone pulls a late Cruyff turn, he’s heading to Anfield.
The deal isn’t cheap. Liverpool will pay an initial €117.5 million with another €18.8 million in potential add-ons (via The Athletic). That brings the total package to around €136.3 million — just enough to make fans say “you what?” in three different accents. But for a player with Wirtz’s numbers, it could be money well spent.

How could Florian Wirtz function under Arne Slot?
The 22-year-old was heavily wanted by Bayern Munich, but the player chose Liverpool. He’s even been house-hunting in northwest England, which says a lot. Last season, Wirtz racked up 16 goals and 15 assists. The season before that? Even better — 18 goals, 20 assists, and a Bundesliga title.

His style is very different from Dominik Szoboszlai, who played in that attacking midfield spot last season. While Szoboszlai brings the hustle and muscle, Wirtz adds finesse — quick touches, clever movement, and the ability to glide past defenders like they’re not there.
This isn’t just a flashy signing. Wirtz can play in multiple attacking roles, which suits Arne Slot’s rotation-heavy approach. He’s not just Plan A — he’s Plan B, C, and possibly D.
With Mohamed Salah turning 33, Liverpool needs a new spark in attack. Wirtz might not replace Salah outright, but he can help carry the load. And with no big-name striker signed yet, Slot may lean on Wirtz to supply the cutting edge.
