In the same way he never shirked a tackle on the pitch, Manchester United legend Gary Neville is not scared of a challenge in business.
The ex-United skipper has constructed a huge business empire that has seen him become a very wealthy man. Neville's retirement from football was dramatic, as he suddenly announced he would be leaving the sport with immediate effect in the middle of the 2010-11 Premier League campaign.
He departed United having won two Champions League titles, eight Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups. He will play at the Theatre of Dreams again, as he will be returning to Old Trafford for Soccer Aid this Sunday.
He's carved out a reputation as one of Sky Sports' most influential commentators and pundits, featuring both in the gantry and in the studio. However, Neville's skills extend beyond the various broadcasts he contributes to.
His business acumen has proven as sharp as his defending, as evidenced by his substantial net worth. Finance Monthly estimates it to be between £70-£100million, despite a financial setback reported in 2022.
Financial records for 'Hotel Football', which is located opposite Old Trafford and co-owned by Neville along with Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, revealed losses of £3.2m over 2020 and 2021. The company also received a loan of £10.2m from parent company 'Orchid Leisure' during that period.
In October 2024, City AM reported that the hotel lost £630,158 in 2022 and £601,030 in 2023. However, there were signs of recovery as the hotel's turnover increased from £6.4m to £7.8m during that period.

Despite its losses, it is still valued at around £20-£30m, according to FM. In addition to Hotel Football, he also owns the Stock Exchange Hotel in Piccadilly Gardens. This was entirely hired out by Madonna in 2023 during her performances in the city.
Despite experiencing losses over the years, FM estimates its value at around £15-£20m. The former England star may not be pleased with the losses, but his extensive business empire provides ample cushioning. Companies House records show that Neville's hotel business has approximately £20m in assets.
His property development company is also believed to hold assets worth £10.5m, while his other businesses are thought to have combined assets of £40m. Among these is his production company Buzz 16, which produces sports content including 'The Overlap' on YouTube, home to his popular podcast 'Stick to Football'.

Like many investors, Neville has also ventured into the property market as another income source. He owns a luxury house in Bolton, Greater Manchester, which has undergone significant renovations since he purchased it in the early 2000s.
Neville, alongside Fred Done, the CEO of Betfred, co-founded St Michael's Propco 2, as was reported by the Manchester Evening News. They are significantly involved in the £400m St. Michael's project in the Deansgate area.
The ambitious venture includes a nine-floor office, a rooftop restaurant and two food and drink outlets on the ground floor. The project will also boast a towering 41-storey building, accommodating a 162-bed five-star hotel, 75,000 square feet of office space and 217 flats.

According to the Times, Neville is listed as a director of 56 different businesses, but he asserts that he has started eight different companies from scratch himself. Additionally, it is reported that Neville earns around £1m per year working for Sky Sports.
Previously, Neville was one of several co-owners of League Two side Salford City. However, the club recently announced a takeover by a new ownership group, led by Neville, David Beckham, US businessman Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies.
The ex-United skipper initially shared 50% of the club with Butt, Giggs, Scholes and Phil Neville, while Singaporean investor Peter Lim owned the rest. The new consortium means the legendary United quartet and Lim no longer hold shares.
