Tottenham could be on the verge of hijacking Manchester United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo.

Thomas Frank is keen on making his former Brentford star his first addition in North London after replacing Ange Postecoglou.

The Cameroon international looked set to move to Spurs’ Europa League final opponents but recent developments may swing the tide.

Tottenham talks held amid Mbeumo hijack

Tottenham have offered £65million plus another £5m in add-ons in an attempt to pip the Red Devils to a deal, with wages likely to hit £140,000-a-week.

TV commentator Ian Darke believes that new boss Frank could play a key role and may have demanded the Bees forward in his initial interview for the vacancy.

He thinks that a move for Mbeumo would be a brilliant one for Spurs and is not worried about the step up to Champions League football.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “You are talking about a guy who is playing out wide for a mid-table side and scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

“I think he is a top player, and I think he would have been an amazing signing for Manchester United. The word I heard is that he wanted to go to Manchester United.

“It is understandable that Frank wants to go in with a big marquee deal, that might have all been part of the talks with him.

“I’ll come but you know, we have got to go and try and get Mbeumo, I need some weapons to fire here and this is our start point.

“I don’t think there are too many that you would want above him; he is playing in a top league for a not-so fashionable club and firing in goals, season after season.”

Frank could tip Mbeumo in Tottenham’s favour

Given that the two already have a connection, Frank’s involvement in any deal could turn it in Spurs’ favour after Ruben Amorim‘s side have already done most of the legwork.

Mbeumo played the best football of his career under the former Bees boss last season, notching 20 goals and eight assists in the top flight and would thrive again working under Justin Cochrane who has also joined Spurs.

The potential of a reunion with his former manager, as well as the chance to play in Europe’s elite competition, may sway the Cameroonian towards staying in London.
