Report: Everton now eyeing move to sign “unbelievable” star in blockbuster £50m deal

Everton have been told that Maxime Esteve would cost them £50 million, a pricetag that Burnley feel will ward off any interest in the defender, according to Football Insider.

Not winning the Championship does not mean Burnley did not enjoy a stellar 2024/25 campaign. They missed out on silverware to Leeds United by goal difference, with both teams finishing the term with 100 points. Under the guidance of Scott Parker, the Clarets won promotion with one of the greatest defences in modern footballing history.

In 46 league matches, Burnley conceded just 16 goals, a staggering defensive record that was the basis of their success. The key members of this defence have, understandably, attracted interest from elsewhere, with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford reportedly being monitored by Newcastle United.

It appears that other components of Burnley’s backline are being tracked by clubs, though Burnley seem reluctant to part with this particular talent.

Maxime Esteve

As per Football Insider, Maxime Esteve is being tracked by a number of clubs. Bayern Munich, managed by Esteve’s former boss Vincent Kompany, are reportedly keen on the defender, just as Everton are. The Toffees enjoyed a strong second half of the last campaign, finishing well away from the bottom three after replacing Sean Dyche with David Moyes.

Given that Jake O’Brien has spent a lot of time at right-back under Moyes’ management, Everton have just three centre-backs not including the Irishman. As such, Esteve would be an ideal signing, a player that offers the Toffees both quality and depth and at just 23 years old, he would bring further youth into the middle of Everton’s defence.

Football Insider have reported that Burnley have valued Esteve, who Scott Parker dubbed an “unbelievable” player, at £50 million in an effort to avoid losing him. The Frenchman has four years remaining on his contract, meaning Burnley are in a strong position to negotiate from as they look to survive their first season back in the Premier League.
