Andy Murray savages Man Utd as Arsenal fan takes up amusing new job

Andy Murray could not resist savaging Manchester United during a recent skit for the LTA at Queen's after a young fan pledged his allegiance to the fallen giants. The former world No. 1, an Arsenal supporter, has been honoured at Queen's this summer, with the West London club renaming its centre court to the Andy Murray Arena.

As part of the festivities, he partnered with the LTA in a comedic five-minute video on social media named 'Agony Andy'. It involved Murray sitting courtside with different fans, who were given one minute to ask him a question about a challenge or problem in life. The Scotsman produced some wise advice as well as some comedic moments, especially when football became involved.

Just over two minutes into the video, a young fan asks Murray how he decides what to be when he is older.

The two-time Wimbledon champion replied: "That is a great question. It is not easy, but you should do what you love. Well, what do you do just now?"

After the youngster reveals "football", Murray further enquires: "Okay. Who is your team? Who do you support?"

The answer "Manchester United" sparks visible and audible disgust across the table before Murray says: "Oh no! What are you doing?!"

After his youthful 'client' expands by stating, "it is the best team in the world", Murray bursts out laughing before hitting back: "What?! They used to be!"

At the end of the video, the three-time Grand Slam winner told producers behind the camera: "He said they were the best football team in the world, and I laughed. He wasn't happy."

United used to be the dominant force in English football, lifting 38 trophies in 27 years under Sir Alex Ferguson between 1986 and 2013.

The Red Devils sat on seven league titles compared to Liverpool's 18 when Ferguson took charge. He retired after winning 13 Premier League crowns, knocking the Reds off their perch.

However, United have endured a miserable decline in the 12 years that followed, and Liverpool levelled the tallies at 20 a piece with their triumph in Arne Slot's debut season.

Ruben Amorim's side finished 15th in the same Premier League campaign and tasted defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Murray's beloved Arsenal are in a far better state despite not winning any major silverware since the 2020 FA Cup.

The Gunners have finished second in the Premier League in three consecutive seasons, losing out to Manchester City by five and two points before trailing Liverpool by 10.

Murray also supports Hibernian like his family after his grandfather, Roy Erskine, played for the Scottish club in the early 1950s.
