Arsenal have set their sights on Lille’s Brazilian centre-back Alexsandro Ribeiro as they aim to bolster their defensive unit for the 2025-26 season.
The 25-year-old has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout defenders, and recent reports indicate the Gunners have made initial contact with Lille to explore a potential transfer. With scouts present at Brazil’s 1-0 World Cup qualifier win over Paraguay, Arsenal’s interest in the versatile defender is intensifying.

Alexsandro, who joined Lille from Chaves in 2022 for €2 million, has proven his worth with consistent performances.
Last season, he helped Lille secure 10 clean sheets in Ligue 1, showcasing his physicality by winning 71% of aerial duels and 58% of ground duels. His two-footedness and composure on the ball make him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s system, which priorities defenders capable of building play from the back.
Alexsandro’s ability to operate as both a left and right-sided centre-back offers valuable cover for Gabriel Magalhaes and a potential alternative to William Saliba, who has attracted interest from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian’s recent international debut under Carlo Ancelotti further highlights his rising stock. Against Ecuador, Alexsandro won 100% of his duels and helped secure a clean sheet, while his assured display against Paraguay caught Arsenal’s attention.
However, the Gunners face competition from Napoli, who are also keen on the defender. Lille, anticipating departures, are reportedly targeting Braga’s Sikou Niakaté as a replacement, suggesting Alexsandro’s exit is possible.
While Arsenal’s transfer focus has often been on attacking reinforcements, their defensive depth was tested last season with Gabriel’s injury absence.
Alexsandro’s signing could provide stability and long-term potential. With Lille open to negotiations and Alexsandro non-committal about his future, Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has an opportunity to secure a shrewd addition.
As the summer window approaches, fans will be eager to see if Alexsandro joins the Emirates’ defensive ranks.
