‘Earlier today’: Journalist shares what he’s just been told about Bryan Mbeumo as Tottenham plot Man Utd hijack

The transfer window is up and running, and there’s already one notable transfer battle underway between two of the Premier League’s biggest teams.

Indeed, Tottenham want to sign Bryan Mbeumo, but that comes after Manchester United were closing in on Mbeumo.

Now, a transfer battle is underway, and, as ever, it will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Mbeumo apparently prefers a move to Manchester United, and according to Mark Ogden, speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, Manchester United are indeed relaxed about this situation, believing Mbeumo will sign for them.

Manchester United relaxed about Bryan Mbeumo situation

Ogden shared the details of a conversation he had with somebody from Manchester United about Mbeumo.

According to the journalist, United remain relaxed about this situation, and they are confident they can beat Tottenham to this signing.

However, Ogden did warn that United may need to move quickly to get this deal done, noting that Mbeumo won’t be waiting around forever to sign for the Red Devils.

“Yeah, obviously there’s a strong connection at Tottenham with Thomas Frank having gone there from Brentford, but the last conversation I had with somebody at United earlier today was that they’re quite relaxed about the situation, about Mbeumo, they’re not worried as of yet,” Ogden said.

“They feel confident that it’s a deal that can get done. Look, I mean, that’s a big fee for Tottenham. Tottenham are a club that generally pays a lot of money. I think Bryan and Mbeumo would earn more money at Man Utd.

“Traditionally, they pay much better wages than Tottenham.

“But obviously, Tottenham have got Champions League to offer, the chance to play with his old manager from Brentford. But I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up at Man Utd.

“I think that deal seems to be quite well underway in the sense that Mbeumo has known for a while at United are keen. I don’t think it’ll take a lot to get the deal over the line with Brentford. But while Tottenham are in there, the longer that United leave it without getting the deal done, the more at risk they are of missing out on Mbeumo because he won’t wait forever.

“But I’ve been told that he’s pretty confident that he’ll end up at United, but they have to get the deal done first before he pulls on the red shirt.”

Which team should Bryan Mbeumo pick?

Bryan Mbeumo is in a difficult situation here as two top clubs want to sign him.

The attacker has a lot to weigh up here, and, from the outside looking in, it has to be said there are more pros around joining Tottenham than United.

Logic suggests that Mbeumo should join Tottenham. He’d get the chance to play Champions League football, he suits the system, he knows the manager and he wouldn’t even have to move.

Yes, Manchester United pay more wages and, historically, are a bigger club, but at this stage in his career, Mbeumo needs to make smart decisions rather than chasing the money.

Mbeumo prefers a move to Manchester United, but aside from the financial incentive, it’s hard to understand why.
