The New York Jets had one of the best running backs in the NFL heading into the 2024 season in Breece Hall, but he did not perform like many thought he would.
And that had led many to question the security of his job.
In a recent article by PFF's Bradley Locker, he puts together a team of the NFL players who he believes are most likely to break out this season. At the running back position, he thinks that player is Jets backup Braelon Allen.
"Allen remains the backup to Breece Hall in New York, but Hall’s production declined in a big way last year with only a 68.7 PFF rushing grade. If Allen can improve his pass-catching abilities and blocking prowess, he could emerge as more of an every-down back for the Jets," Locker wrote. "After all, new OC Tanner Engstrand comes from a Detroit Lions team that gave Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery each over 190 carries in 2024."
Hall's rushing and receiving yard numbers both went down in 2024, as well as his total touchdown number. Meanwhile, Allen was very solid with the minimal number of snaps he was given.
The 21-year-old back had 482 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season. He was also able to half over half of the number of first downs Hall did in less than half the rushing attempts.
Hall will be looking to bounce back and meet expectations in 2025, but Allen will do the most with the opportunities he receives.
