Big news coming in Spain, setting up a potential transfer that nobody saw coming.
The left-back situation at Liverpool has come into question in recent weeks, as the potential arrival of Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has cast uncertainty over the futures of Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson’s future at the club.
Tsimikas is the more likely departure, given Robetson’s service to the club and being a key part of Liverpool’s success since joining Anfield, but the arrival of Kerkez could make the Scotsman rethink his decisions.
Liverpool have just won the Premier League, and reinforcments are arriving to help the team reach the top once again next season.
Milos Kerkez’s arrival is a sign that Arne Slot has identified the left-back position as an area of weakness as the ageing Robertson endured his most frustrating season to date.
Robertson made 45 appearances last season, but just the two assists to his name are far below the numbers we have become so used to seeing from him.
Kerkez could signal the end of Robertson getting regular game-time at Liverpool, and a report from Fabrizio Romano has just landed that could offer a way out for the left-back.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Atletico Madrid have Andy Robertson as their top target for left-back this summer, as he is appreciated internally as an ideal candidate.
However, it is said to not be an easy to deal to complete, as Liverpool also appreciate Robertson extremely highly, even with Kerkez due to join the club soon.
Robertson has recently come out and addressed the arrival of Kerkez and what that will mean for him at Liverpool.
“We’re not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done. But, until that is done, I’ve not even given that a second thought. I back myself.”
“I’ve got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. I’ve had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies and being a mainstay in the team, which I’m incredibly proud of.”
“I’m not getting any younger. I can’t change my age, but I still believe I’ve got a lot to give and that’s what I focus on. I focus on myself – you can’t focus on other people or who you’re competing with.”
However, such interest could lure Andy Robertson away from England, so this will be an interesting story to watch develop.
