Sir Alex Ferguson had his player and management career far from Leicester. However, during his journey to stardom, he often crossed paths with former foxes. This was under his time at Aberdeen and Man Utd.

The first to speak of is Willie Cunningham. The former Leicester defender and N Ireland international became somewhat a master for Sir Alex, being his coach at Dunfirmline. He was also the one recommending Sir Alex for the managerial position at St. Mirren, replacing Cunningham, to set him on a good path.

Mark McGhee and Peter Weir both played under Sir Alex at Aberdeen. McGhee, later a manager at Leicester, was his top striker. Weir was a tricky winger. Both represented Scotland at the international level while with The Dons.

Colin Gibson and Brian Carey were two players signed by Leicester. Both players had previously played for Man Utd. This was during the early phase of Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Old Trafford.

Tom Cleverley and Jesse Lingard both joined Leicester on loan from Man Utd when Sir Alex was in charge. Leicester made no secret of their admiration for Man Utd recruits.

Leicester made an extensive recruitment from Man Utd later. This happened towards the end of this fantastic period, close to the final days of Sir Alex’s era.

Danny Drinkwater and Matty James both arrived from Man Utd. Both being part of youth and academy teams as well as having reserves apperances.

Danny Simpson arrived from Queens Park Rangers. However, his upbringing in football was completed at Man Utd. There, he gained experience playing in the first team under Sir Alex. Another player who served at Man Utd was Tom Lawrence. He was in and around the first team before joining Leicester.

Loan man Nick Powell was given his Man Utd debut by Sir Alex. He made his Premier League debut against Wigan Athletic in a 4–0 win on 15 September 2012. He came on as a sub for Ryan Giggs

Louis Rowley and Jack Barmby both joined Leicester from Man Utd. They came at the same time as Tom Lawrence. Barmby was very young and never hit his target to become a Leicester regular. Rowley had no luck with injuries and retired early.
