'Wouldn't be surprised': Pundit says he could genuinely see 'really special' Man City player…

Exits will take place at Manchester City over the coming weeks.

The future of several stars at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain, with Jack Grealish set for a Man City exit, while Ilkay Gundogan, Ederson, Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva could also head for the exit door before the transfer window shuts.

This is part of Pep Guardiola’s rebuild at the Manchester club as the legendary coach does not want to experience another season like the 2024/25 campaign, a year in which City went trophyless.

There has been a lot of talk about the future of Grealish in recent days; however, when discussing where the winger could go next, pundit Tony Cascarino has revealed that he wouldn’t be surprised to see another major Man City star move to Arsenal this summer.

Arsenal told to get Phil Foden from Man City

Guardiola is a huge fan of Phil Foden; however, it was hard for the legendary coach not to notice how much the England star struggled last season, which was arguably his worst in a Man City shirt, given the expectations he set the year before by winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

City fans expect the 25-year-old to bounce back next season, but ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Cascarino has encouraged Arsenal to go get Foden.

When asked if Grealish could be an option to strengthen Arsenal this summer, Cascarino told talkSPORT: “No, I think Foden’s way more likely.

“Obviously, Arteta worked at Man City with Phil Foden, and for whatever reason, I’m sure we’ll find out down the line, Phil Foden just hasn’t been the player we know him to be this season.

“From where he was the Football Writers’ Player of the Year the season before, his performances this year have just not justified that.”

“But all what’s happening at City and all the spending that’s gone on, I wouldn’t be surprised if Foden is allowed to go somewhere.

“Whether City let him go to Arsenal, I don’t know, but they let Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko go there. If Arsenal could get him, I think Arteta would really consider that, yeah.”

Gary Neville is also a huge Foden fan and has previously labelled the Man City star as “really, really special”, a sentiment most fans of the Manchester club share.

The 25-year-old is very unlikely to depart the Etihad Stadium over the coming weeks and is currently fully focused on putting last season behind him and winning the FIFA Club World Cup for Man City.

Phil Foden’s record vs Arsenal

By joining Arsenal, Foden would rule out playing against a team he has a strong record against, as the midfielder has come up against the Gunners on 13 separate occasions.

The England international has tasted victory in seven of those contests, while drawing two and losing the remaining four. The Man City star has scored two goals against the North London side, while producing a further three assists.

A move to Arsenal would be a great fit for Foden as it would provide him with a fresh challenge under a coach he knows well in Mikel Arteta.

However, the 25-year-old’s story at the Etihad Stadium is not over yet, but the next 12 months could tell a lot about the trajectory of the England international’s career.
