Forgotten Jaguars corner just torched minicamp like his career depended on it

As recently as 2022, Tyson Campbell was seen as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Unfortunately, injuries have held him back the past two years. Fast forward to 2025, and the former Georgia Bulldog is the healthiest he's been in a while. On top of that, he's wasted no time making the most of his chances and leaving a strong impression at mandatory minicamp. Head coach Liam Coen has certainly noticed and didn't waste the opportunity to shower him with praise.

Coen met with the local media on Day 1 of mandatory minicamp and said that Campbell has been everything he could ask for.

"I've been impressed with Tyson. I thought, like you said today, made some really good competitive plays," Coen responded when asked what he's seen from Campbell. "He's getting more and more comfortable playing with his hands at the line of scrimmage, trusting his physicality. He does have long arms and good length, and obviously the speed and athleticism shows up."

Coen continued, "I thought he made some really good plays on the ball, and he kind of has all throughout OTAs, but I've been really pleased with his approach, the way that he's practiced, the way that he's taken coaching. I've been really pleased with Tyson so far."

Leaving Coen's glowing review aside, the press corps has also taken notice of Campbell's strong offseason. Rick Ballou of 1010 XL says that the fifth-year cornerback has had "a three great weeks." In the same breath, John Shipley of Sports Illustrated reported that the fifth-year veteran made several impressive plays on Day 2 of minicamp.

Since 2023, Campbell has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury that's hampered his play and forced him to miss 11 games. In that span, he's given up a 65.8 percent completion rate and surrendered 10 touchdowns, while logging just one interception.

The Jaguars need Tyson Campbell to regain form in 2025

A second-round pick in 2021, Tyson Campbell got off to a slow start to his rookie season but got better as the year progressed managed to finish strong. By Year 2, he was the Jaguars' No. 1 cornerback and even appeared in the top 10 of several rankings.

Unfortunately, injuries have hindered Campbell's performance and caused him to tumble in recent power rankings. The silver lining is that he still popped up at No. 27 on PFF's latest top-32 list, and it's easy to understand why. The Plantation, Florida native is still the same talented player he was a couple years ago and could easily reclaim his place in the top 10 if he manages to stay healthy. On the other hand, pressure is mounting on him.

There's a new regime in place, and Campbell must prove that he's worth the long-term extension he signed last year. If he struggles next season, the Jags might consider moving on from him in 2026. This may be feasible with Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones, and Jourdan Lewis in the fold. Not a certainty, but not impossible either.

Working in Tyson Campbell's favor is that he's having a strong offseason, and if it carries over into the regular season, he will have no trouble solidifying his place as a mainstay of the Jaguars secondary for years to come.
