When Diogo Jota was growing up in Portugal, his dream was to play in the Premier League. In 2018, he achieved that dream by helping Wolverhampton Wanderers return back to the top flight. From then, his impressive performances gained the interest of several other English teams, including [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/), who acquired the player in 2020.
His five seasons with the team have had its ups and downs. Particularly this season, he was one of the few players who suffered a long term injury. However, he returned to the team with something to prove, and helped the Reds earn their 20th league trophy.
Speaking about this achievement, Jota clearly recognizes the privilege of his position.
“It was a very tough season for me, where I got a proper injury halfway through it, where I was playing well. It didn’t help at all,” [Jota said](https://go.redirectingat.com?id=66960X1516590&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.liverpoolfc.com%2Fnews%2Fdiogo-jota-small-guy-who-surpassed-his-premier-league-dream&referrer=sbnation.com&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fliverpooloffside.sbnation.com%2Fliverpool-fc-news-coverage%2F2025%2F6%2F14%2F24449257%2Fdiogo-jota-on-being-the-small-guy-who-dreamed-big-liverpool-fc).
“So, to arrive at this particular season with the title that I’ve been chasing for a lot of years and in the best league in the world – for me where I dreamed to play as a kid – it’s a moment I will cherish forever. It is a remarkable achievement for a small guy that came from Gondomar, where I had this dream. To arrive at this moment was outstanding.”
Jota has been a calm and stalwart member of the squad for both Jürgen Klopp and now Arne Slot. His addition to the squad has improved the versatility of the team, and he continues to put up big performances when the team most needs him.
Next season will likely give him more opportunities to prove himself to the team and the fans.
