Report: Chelsea discover their‘award’ for taking part in the Club World Cup, it’s massive

Not everyone is a fan of the new Club World Cup, but Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali will be.

Chelsea qualified for the expanded Club World Cup after winning the Champions League in 2021 and are set to pocket a lot of money for their participation in the tournament.

Blues fans also have reason to be excited about the competition, as they are likely to see a few new signings make their debuts.

Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr will be given time to adapt, though, with the pair still being very young players.

How much money Chelsea are earning for participating at Club World Cup

While the Club World Cup could see some of Chelsea’s new players get a run out, Enzo Maresca will not want to treat the competition as a pre-season tournament.

Big money is at stake, though the Conference League winners are set to receive some cash for just being in America.

As per BBC Sport, clubs participating at the Club World Cup will bank between £9.9m and £29.6m as an “award”, with European sides such as Chelsea at the top end of the bracket.

Chelsea begin their Club World Cup campaign against Los Angeles FC on Monday in a game that could see Liam Delap make his debut for the club.

The striker joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town earlier this month, and former Blue Olivier Giroud has backed him to be a success at Stamford Bridge.

When Giroud spoke about Delap, whom he could face when his Los Angeles side take on Chelsea, the Frenchman said: “If he’s got a good mentality, and I think he’s very talented, and the boys will help him to settle well, I think it will be fine.”

How much money Chelsea could earn if they win Club World Cup

If Chelsea go on to win the whole thing, they could end up pocketing £97m in prize money. It is why Boehly and Eghbali will be desperate for Maresca’s team to do well.

With the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain also competing in the tournament, though, it will not be easy.
