The 32-team FIFA Club World Cup is set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

This expanded version of the tournament will bring together clubs from across the globe that have qualified via ranking over a four-year cycle, however, Manchester United won’t be involved.

Earlier this year, there were reports suggesting Cristiano Ronaldo was eyeing a shock move away from Saudi Arabia in order to join a team qualified for the tournament.

With apparent interest from a Brazilian side taking part in the competition.

The idea of another dance on the world stage intrigued many, but ultimately, a transfer never materialised, and Ronaldo will be watching the 2025 Club World Cup from afar.

While Ronaldo won’t be there, a number of other former Manchester United players will be.

1. Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani will be one of the most high-profile former Manchester United players at the 2025 Club World Cup.

Now at Boca Juniors, Cavani spent two seasons at Old Trafford between 2020 and 2022, scoring key goals and becoming a fan favourite for his movement and work rate.

At 38, this could be the last major tournament of his career, and he’ll be aiming to leave his mark on the global stage one more time.

2. Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera, a fan favourite during his five-year spell at Manchester United, will also be back on the big stage with Boca Juniors at the 2025 Club World Cup.

The Spanish midfielder made over 180 appearances for United between, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League.

Known for his passion and tactical awareness, Herrera was a key figure at United for a number of years.

Now in the twilight of his career, the 35-year-old has linked up with former teammate Edinson Cavani in Argentina and will be hoping to lead Boca deep into the tournament.

3. Angel Di Maria

Angel Di Maria’s time at Manchester United may have been short, but it remains one of the most talked-about stints of the post-Ferguson era.

Signed for a then-British record £59.7 million in 2014, the Argentine winger started brightly – but struggled with form and off-field issues before leaving for PSG in 2015.

Now back at Benfica, the club where he first made his name in Europe, Di Maria has helped them qualify for the tournament.

At 37, it’s another chance to remind fans of the talent United never fully saw.

4. Alex Telles

Alex Telles arrived at Manchester United in 2020 with high expectations, seen by many as the man to push – or even replace Luke Shaw at left-back.

But despite a promising start and clear attacking quality, he never fully established himself as a regular starter.

Shaw’s resurgence limited Telles to just 50 appearances across three seasons, and he was eventually loaned to Sevilla before leaving permanently in 2023.

After a season with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Telles returned to South America to join Botafogo, with who he will take part in the tournament.

5. Marcus Rojo

Marcos Rojo played for Manchester United from 2014 to 2021, will also feature at the 2025 Club World Cup with Boca Juniors.

He was part of United’s 2017 Europa League-winning squad but struggled with injuries later on in his career.

Since returning to Argentina, Rojo has become a key figure for Boca, bringing experience alongside former teammates Cavani and Herrera as they aim to make their mark on the global stage once more.
