With the arrival of rising star Giorgi Mamardashvili at [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/) this summer and Alisson Becker the club’s undisputed first choice goalkeeper heading into the 2025-26 season, playing time was always going to be next to impossible to find for Vítězslav Jaroš.
The promising 23-year-old was third in line last season behind Alisson and the since departed Caoimhin Kelleher, but managed a pair of appearances and looked solid in both of them. It’s hardly a surprise, then, to learn he’s heading off on loan for the coming season.
What is surprising, perhaps, is that he’s heading to Ajax, with the Eredivisie club needing a new number one for at least the coming season and new manager John Heitinga—until recently Arne Slot’s assistant with the Reds—looking to bring Jaroš along with him
After recent rumours to that effect, [De Telegraaf](https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/voetbal/ajax-bereikt-akkoord-met-liverpool-en-jaros/71915527.html) are now reporting the two sides and the player are in full agreement over a season-long loan with no purchase option. However, before the move goes through Jaroš is expected to sign a new Liverpool contract.
The Czech stopper’s contract runs through summer 2026, meaning a loan without an extension first would functionally spell the end of Jaroš’ Liverpool career, and while a path to playing time may be difficult with the Reds he remains highly rated at the club.
