Finding a franchise quarterback is hard to do. Surrounding that franchise quarterback with top talent is even harder.
That is the challenge the Washington Commanders are currently dealing with. The 2024 second-overall pick, quarterback Jayden Daniels, has already shown his prowess as a franchise quarterback.
It's Washington's job to surround Daniels with talent moving forward.
The Commanders certainly did that throughout the 2025 offseason. Veterans like tackle Laremy Tunsil and receiver Deebo Samuel were brought into the fold for Washington's offense, and it added young defensive players throughout the 2025 NFL Draft as well.
Pro Football Focus writer Dalton Wasserman believes Daniels gives the team a ton of optimism during the 2024 season, which allows them to bolster their talent around him.
"Daniels playing like an elite quarterback so early in his career has allowed the Commanders to build around him and contend for a championship," Wasserman said. "This offseason, they added left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who should shore up an offensive line that ranked 22nd in PFF pass-blocking grade last season.
"They also acquired Deebo Samuel, who posted a solid 72.1 PFF receiving grade in 2024."
There is no perfect way to build a Super Bowl contender. What Washington accomplished this offseason is promising, though.
Daniels' supporting cast with the Commanders is as good as it has been in the nation's capital in quite some time. If they continue to build off their success from last season, then a Super Bowl berth may not be too far away.
With a franchise quarterback in the building, the bar has been set. After a successful 2025 offseason, Washington is expected to make the leap.
