NFL Trade Idea Sends Jalen Ramsey From Dolphins to Steelers

The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned in trade talks throughout the offseason. Still, most have been centered around tight end Jonnu Smith, who has a connection with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

However, this proposal lands Dolphins' standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey with the Steelers.

Ramsey and the Dolphins mutually agreed to seek a trade partner early in the offseason, but have not agreed to terms yet. Likely, because the Dolphins can split Ramsey's cap hit across two years now that they've waited beyond June 1 to make a deal.

This proposal by Steelers Wire's Curt Popejoy sends Ramsey to the Steelers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft that could convert into a third-round pick depending on Ramsey's production in 2025.

However, there is a contingency on this proposal. Popejoy notes the Dolphins would pick up some of Ramsey's $25 million in considerations for 2025.

With the signing of Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers now have about $19 million in cap space for 20

25. Therefore, the Dolphins would need to pitch in, or the Steelers would have to restructure contracts to add Ramsey.

The Steelers did sign Darius Slay this offseason to replace Donte Jackson, who departed. With Slay, Pittsburgh has its top two corners with Joey Porter Jr. on the other side, but the depth behind those two is slim.

Pittsburgh doesn't need Ramsey, and it would make their cap space very tight, but it would also add a three-time All-Pro corner to the secondary of a team that has shown they are all-in this season.

The other factor is the contract of four-time All-Pro and former Defensive Player of the Year TJ Watt. Watt should be the priority for the Steelers, but if Pittsburgh can manage to get both players on the field in 2025, it could be a terrifying sight for opposing offenses.
