'Baker Don't Care!' Bucs Rookie Speaks Out on QB Mayfield's Fight

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the best offenses in the sport. A trio of top receivers led by Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka are a big reason why.

Add in the exploits of 1,000-yard running back Bucky Irving and a strong offensive line, and the Buccaneers are the kind of matchup that keeps defensive coordinators up at night.

Leading the group is quarterback Baker Mayfield. The former first overall pick has found a long-term home in Tampa Bay, and has the Buccaneers thinking of a Super Bowl run in 2025.

What Mayfield put on tape last season was impressive. So much so that the Buccaneers' seventh-round rookie receiver, Tez Johnson, was left in awe regarding the idea of playing with him.

Johnson spoke on the Up and Adams podcast with Kay Adams this week to detail just how special Mayfield is as a player, using one play from last season as a great example.

"I mean, look what he did — he had [defender Nick] Bosa on one arm, just to throw the ball," Johnson said. "And you're like, 'Oh my god, Baker don't care.' Baker don't care about who you are, how good you are, he's [gonna] go out there and go head-up with you, every single day."

Mayfield has always been a relentless competitor. This is how he led the Cleveland Browns to their first playoff win in decades and kept Tampa Bay in championship contention in the post-Tom Brady era.

Tampa Bay's offense is one of the best in football. There are a lot of reasons why.

At the top of the list is Mayfield's tenacity as a quarterback. It's something the Buccaneers are really fortunate to have as "Baker Don't Care'' about much beyond fighting to win.
