A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is set to be handed a new squad number for next season.
That’s according to Blancos insider Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE, who points towards Raúl Asencio as the player in question.
The name of stopper Asencio has of course proven a prominent one in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the day to date.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old has agreed to the terms of a long-term contract extension with Real Madrid:
🚨🤍 Raúl Asencio has signed new deal at Real Madrid valid until June 2031, plan revealed in March confirmed!
Agreement sealed and understand new release clause will be €1B. 💣 pic.twitter.com/CzVdCCiGBH

As much, of course, comes as reward for a hugely impressive breakout season for Asencio at the Santiago Bernabéu.
And if ensuing word stemming from the media on Saturday evening is anything to go by, then the rewards will not end there…
As per a report from Miguel Ángel Díaz:
‘At the Club World Cup, Asencio’s jersey number will remain 35, but he will change it next season.’
