The situation surrounding Antony’s future at the club has been developing over the last couple of months although fans are left uncertain where the winger will go this summer or if he will stay at Manchester United.
Several options have been explored for the Brazilian including Real Betis, who he spent the second half of the 2024-25 season at, amongst others.
Antony initially impressed at Manchester United scoring in both of his opening 2 games although has fallen from the impressive start which meant the 21 year old fell from a starting position to the bench and in small parts of the 2024-25 season, completely out of the squad.
Douglas Luiz To United?
However, a major update has now emerged on his future with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Antony and Juventus star Douglas Luiz could have ended up being separate ends of a swap deal with Luiz ending up at United ahead of the 2025-26 season.
This came because of the former Juventus director being impressed by Antony’s abilities which led to his belief that the winger could be a good addition to the team following his spell at Real Betis.
According to these reports, initial talks over the prospect of a deal took place with the Italian side prepared to discuss and explore different ways of making the deal happen.
Could He Be A Good Addition?
Luiz had previously been a target for Manchester United in the January transfer window although nothing happened in this pursuit.
With an 89.5% passing accuracy and with the Juventus player successfully completing 72.2% of his dribbles, Luiz would be a good fit for United and arguably would offer stability in midfield whilst also helping the Red Devils to push further up the field.
However, progress on this potential swap deal has not progressed any further and with a change in directors, the move’s potential will become more clear in the coming days and weeks.
