Man Utd should now sign 22yo Belgian star for£30m as Onana opens door for transfer - opinion

Manchester United should consider Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as a potential replacement for Andre Onana this summer.

The Red Devils had a dismal 2024/25 season in the Premier League. They finished a disappointing 15th in the table with only 42 points on the board.

Onana started in goal on 34 occasions. The Cameroonian star was unconvincing at times and was guilty of making three errors leading to goals.

The former Inter Milan star is on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs but as things stand, United have not received any lucrative offer on the table.

Amidst this, Onana has refused to rule out a potential transfer away from Old Trafford.

He was quoted as saying by Allez Les Lions: “Will I leave? I don’t know, we’ll see.”

In our view, United should be proactive in the pursuit of a successor if Onana were to eventually depart.

We believe the club should seriously look into a deal for Antwerp sensation Lammens. United are already interested in signing him.

The 22-year-old has developed into one of Europe’s best emerging goalkeepers, and he had a superb breakthrough campaign with Antwerp last term.

The Belgian star was sensational with his reflexes. He made 4.3 saves per league game with a success rate of 77 percent. In comparison, Onana made only 2.6 saves per outing with a 67 percent success rate.

Distribution wise, both were quite similar with a passing accuracy of 71 and 70 percent, but Lammens managed way more accurate long balls than Onana (7.4 to 4.5).

Lammens also caught the eye with his penalty-saving skills. The Club Brugge graduate saved four out of eight spot-kicks against him in the Belgian top-flight.

Antwerp are looking for £30m to part ways with Lammens, but United could persuade them to accept a lower fixed fee of £20m with the remaining in add-ons.

A deal could ultimately depend on what happens with Onana. If United receive a good bid from Saudi, it could pave the way for a young shot-stopper, possibly Lammens to join the club.
