Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers about a week ago. But before that, many thought that the 41-year-old field general was going to consider retirement.
However, one Steelers legend believes that Rodgers is not too far from calling it a career.
On a recent episode of Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger, the iconic Pittsburgh QB gave his thoughts on when he thinks that Rodgers will finally hang up the cleats. And it's earlier than you might think.
"I don't think he's got much more after this year," Roethlisberger said. "I think this might be it for him... You're coming off an Achilles—Coming off my elbow, my first year back, I felt like I was 100%—I wasn't even [close]. You don't realize that you're not 100 until the next year when you are 100... He’s going to feel better, but it doesn’t mean that he’s going to have two or three years left. I think this might be his last go."
Roethlisberger himself played 18 seasons in the NFL, all with the Steelers. So he knows a thing or two about when it is time to retire. And he thinks Rodgers is coming close.
In the first game of his New York Jets tenure in 2023, Rodgers tore his Achilles, which is definitely not ideal for someone of his age. He might be feeling a lot better this season, but that big of an injury still takes a toll on a player's body.
At 41 years old, Rodgers has four Most Valuable Player awards, and has also won a Super Bowl. He does not have much more to prove, but he will be looking to lead the Steelers to the playoffs to put together one last postseason run.
