Curses exist in sports.
Don't let anyone tell you differently.
From the "Curse of the Bambino" with the Boston Red Sox to the Bobby Layne curse with the Detroit Lions and that dang goat at Wrigley Field, jinxes and key historical moments can fundamentally alter an organization's perception.
Seriously. Maybe.
The Philadelphia Eagles know that well. The "Curse of William Penn" haunted Philly sports for decades until the Phillies won the 2008 World Series. A decade later, the Eagles won Super Bowl LII, ending a 58-year title drought of their own.
Fresh off another Super Bowl title, one of the Eagles' former players wants to place his curse on the franchise.
Safety Chauncey "C.J.'' Gardner-Johnson spoke out during a live stream on Instagram to potentially curse the organization for trading him to the Houston Texans this offseason.
"They probably won't see one without me," Gardner-Johnson stated. "(Expletive) you talking about. You saw what happened when I left. I'm popping now. (Expletive) you talking about, I'm glad I'm in Texas. They say everything is better in Texas."
This is not the first time Gardner-Johnson has spoken about the trade that sent him to Houston. Throughout the offseason, the safety has criticized former teammates and coaches on the Eagles.
But did Gardner-Johnson seriously try and put a curse on the Eagles?
"The Chauncey Curse''?
While he said nothing definitive in that regard, to those of us who ponder such things ... his suggesting that the team will not win another title without him is pretty darn close.
Future Eagles teams will now be out to show that they don't need Gardner-Johnson to again be Super Bowl champions.
But until then? Watch out, Philly, for Babes and goats.
