85 days until kickoff: Alvin Kamara can creep into the top-25 all time in TDs

The New Orleans Saints are 8 days away from their season opener versus the Arizona Cardinals. Alvin Kamara’s 85 touchdowns are the most touchdowns in franchise history by any player that isn’t a quarterback.

Even if you expand the field to include quarterbacks, there are still only three players in Saints history with more touchdowns than Kamara. Aaron Brooks, Archie Manning and Drew Brees have all exceeded 100 career touchdowns with the Saints. Kamara’s competition for most touchdowns being quarterbacks, shows you how elite of a scorer he’s been over his eight-year career.

Alvin Kamara is one of the best receivers and runners in Saints history

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kamara is a running back, but his game has always been trademarked by the ability to run and catch. The same is true for his touchdown production. When you separate both aspects of the game, he is equally impressive.

Kamara has the most rushing touchdowns in Saints history. He surpassed Mark Ingram for that title in 2023 before extending his lead with six more rushing touchdowns in 2024.

Kamara has been deadly through the air as well. His 60 rushing touchdowns with 25 receiving touchdowns. That ranks ninth in franchise history, and Kamara can jump Henry Childs for eighth place with three receiving touchdowns.

Kamara's scoring brilliance surpasses Saints history books

----------------------------------------------------------

Kamara led the league in 2021 with 21 total touchdowns. His last game of the regular season was his signature performance. On Christmas Day 2020, Kamara torched the Minnesota Vikings for six touchdowns, all on the ground. That was an NFL record for most touchdowns by a non-quarterback. Kamara had always been a strong scorer, but that was his greatest display in a single season and game.

The post-Drew Brees era has been cruel to Kamara. Once a touchdown machine, the running back hasn’t hit double digit scores in the last four years. Kamara’s usage began to drop in quality. That was best seen in the passing game. With Pete Carmichael calling plays, Kamara never felt like as big of a part of the passing game as he did in years past.

If it weren’t for the slump we saw in those years, Kamara could be approaching the top-25. Steve Largent ranks 25th all-time with 101 touchdowns. There is a chance Kamara will climb into the top-25. He’d accomplish this feet with just seven touchdowns. With the frequency Kellen Moore has run the ball in the past, Kamara may be in line for his first double digit touchdown season since 2020.
