Arsenal are expected to splash the cash this summer, with Mikel Arteta determined to finally get his hands on some silverware. The Gunners looked well-positioned to compete on all fronts, but numerous injuries to key players dented any chance of winning a major trophy.
This summer, Arteta wants to 'add goals and creativity' to his squad. football.london understands that the Spaniard wants to get business done quickly, with the hope that the north Londoners can move swiftly in the opening weeks of the transfer window.
Andrea Berta has already managed to offload four players, but he's yet to welcome any new faces to the Emirates Stadium. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and gossip.
Gyokeres makes final decision
According to The Times, Viktor Gyokeres would prefer a move to Arsenal over Manchester United. The report claims the Sporting striker made the decision following exploratory talks with the Red Devils.
The Gunners have been given a major boost to their chances of signing Gyokeres, but they're said to be spit on whether they should sign the Swede or Benjamin Sesko. The Times state that Arteta is a big fan of the RB Leipzig striker, who almost joined Arsenal last year.
football.london says: "If Mikel Arteta wants Benjamin Sesko then Arsenal should go for Benjamin Sesko. It's that simple. He and Viktor Gyokeres are both great options. There are pros and there's cons to each deal, so Andrea Berta should back the head coach in this scenario."
Arsenal told to sign Man City star
Speaking on talkSPORT, Tony Cascarino believes Arsenal are 'way more likely' to sign Phil Foden than Jack Grealish from Manchester City. The former Chelsea striker said: "I think Foden’s way more likely.
"Obviously, Arteta worked at Man City with Phil Foden, and for whatever reason, I’m sure we’ll find out down the line, Phil Foden just hasn’t been the player we know him to be this season.
"From where he was the Football Writers’ Player of the Year the season before, his performances this year have just not justified that," added Cascarino. "But all what’s happening at City and all the spending that’s gone on, I wouldn’t be surprised if Foden is allowed to go somewhere.
"Whether City let him go to Arsenal, I don’t know, but they let Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko go there. If Arsenal could get him, I think Arteta would really consider that, yeah."
football.london says: "Phil Foden doesn't currently get in the Arsenal starting lineup. He could play on the left, but Gabriel Martinelli provides the Gunners an outlet. He could also play in the middle, but I doubt Mikel Arteta would bench his captain. It should also go without saying that he doesn't bench Bukayo Saka on the right..."
Williams holds transfer talks
According to the Daily Mail, Nico Williams has recently held talks with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich regarding a potential transfer from Athletic Club. The report claims that the 22-year-old winger would be prepared to lower his salary to secure a move away.
football.london understands that Arsenal hold a long-term interest in Williams, who was on Mikel Arteta's radar well before he burst onto the scene at the Euros last year.
football.london says: "Nico Williams would be a class signing for Arsenal. Unfortunately, it seems like the Gunners have missed the boat, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich at the front of the queue."
