**A legendary Liverpool player is the subject of interest from a huge European club, according to a significant update from reliable journalist David Ornstein.**
This is a summer of huge change at Anfield, not least with Trent Alexander-Arnold deciding to up sticks and move to Real Madrid.
Jeremie Frimpong has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in his place, while Florian Wirtz is also closing in on a record-breaking move to Liverpool from the Bundesliga giants.
At left-back, Milos Kerkez feels almost certain to join the Reds from Bournemouth soon, with many seeing him as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.
In fact, it now looks as though the Scot could be off this summer, with [_The Athletic_](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6425761/2025/06/14/andy-robertson-atletico-madrid-interest/)‘s Ornstein taking to [_X_](https://x.com/David_Ornstein/status/1933881716537438502) to say that La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are keen on signing him:
_“Atletico Madrid weighing up move to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson. No formal talks yet between clubs or with 31yo – but Theo Hernandez out of frame + Scotland international among options Atleti considering.”_
**Robbo still has an important role at Liverpool**

Seeing Robertson depart this summer would be sad, following eight years of magnificent service at left-back, during which time he has won two Premier League titles and one Champions League crown, among other trophies.
Admittedly, the 31-year-old arguably had his poorest season in a Reds shirt in 2024/25, by his high standards, and while Kerkez should be seen as first choice, the Scotland captain could still be an excellent squad player.
A move to Atletico could work well for Robertson, however, with his diminishing pace likely to be less exposed in a team renowned for its defensive solidity, often sitting deep. Not only that, but he possesses the fight and character to excel under Diego Simeone.
It would be more preferable for the defender to stay put at Liverpool, however, even if it is only for one more year before his current deal expires at the end of next season.
Few would begrudge Robertson a fresh challenge at this point in his career, but it would be a shame not to be able to give him a proper send-off.
