Inter Milan are moving ahead with plans to sign Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer, according to reports. The Serie A giants are preparing to test United's resolve but may have to get creative in their efforts due to concerns over Hojlund's asking price.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Red Devils will not sell their No. 9 for less than £38million this summer, as any less would represent a capital loss. The Old Trafford outfit splurged £72m to sign Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023, but after scoring 16 goals in a promising debut season, he regressed last term. The 22-year-old notched just four Premier League goals across a challenging campaign and could now make way as part of an attacking overhaul.
La Gazzetta add that Inter's budget falls slightly short of United's valuation, but there is a mutual eagerness between the club and player to strike a deal.
It's claimed the Nerazzurri will attempt to convince United to offload Hojlund on an initial loan with an option to make the move permanent next summer.
Inter reportedly plan to table a significant loan fee, which would boost the M16 heavyweights' immediate budget and lower Hojlund's cost next summer, should they trigger the clause.
New head coach Cristian Chivu is pushing for reinforcements after the departures of Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa as free agents.
Mehdi Taremi will reportedly also be allowed to walk away from the San Siro if a suitable offer for his services arrives.
Inter are said to be on the brink of a deal for Parma starlet Ange-Yoan Bonny, who previously played under Chivu.
However, Simone Inzaghi's successor wants a first-team option to compete with Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez.
At the end of May, InterLive reported that Inzaghi had a total agreement with Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and owners Oaktree Capital Management that Hojlund was their man.
Amorim has already emphasised his discontent with last season's attacking record by completing the early signing of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
Following the Brazilian's £62.5m arrival, United are locked in talks with Brentford over the capture of Bryan Mbeumo.
The Bees are currently holding out for a guaranteed £60m fee amid emerging rival interest from new Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank.
Amorim reportedly also wants a striker, which Hojlund's sale could contribute towards funding. Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres have both already rejected United.
