Man United Expected To Outbid Arsenal By £8.5M As Transfer Battle Takes Fresh Twist

Manchester United are set to table an offer for Viktor Gyokeres which is worth €70m (£59.6m), according to reports in Portugal.

Mais Fuebol claim that the Red Devils are prepared to pay €60m (£51.1m) up front, with another €10m (£8.5m) in performance-related add-ons.

They also suggest that this bid is above what Arsenal are willing to pay, which is said to be a fixed fee below €60m (£51.1m).

However, as things stand, Gyokeres’s club, Sporting Lisbon, are unlikely to accept either proposal.

Gyokeres’s asking price has increased

Heading into the summer, it was widely reported that the forward had a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting that he would be sold for a fee in the region of €65m (£55.4m).

However, the club’s president Frederico Varandas spoke out earlier this week to claim that fee would be too low, although they would still allow Gyokeres to leave for less than his €100m (£85.2m) release clause.

Mais Fuebol believe that the new price tag has been set at €80m (£68.2m) and that is the valuation United and Arsenal will both have to match if they want to snap up the 27-year-old this summer.

Man United have an extra obstacle to overcome

The Red Devils have also yet to agree personal terms with the Swedish international and that could potentially complicate any negotiations.

It’s usually the case that clubs will seek to find common ground on the player’s salary first before entering formal negotiations with his club on the transfer fee.

United are thought to be keen on lowering their wage bill, so that may be why talks with Gyokeres’s entourage have not run smoothly. If they could get high earners such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho off the club’s books, it would certainly help matters.
