Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been on West Ham United’s radar for some time.

Graham Potter is desperate to end the London club’s attacking woes this summer and has identified the England international as a potential target.

The striker has been at Everton since 2016, but his contract is set to run out this summer.

This has given West Ham an opportunity to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

West Ham begin talks to sign Calvert-Lewin

With Michail Antonio likely to depart West Ham, the hunt for a new striker has sped up.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

According to Football Transfer (14 June), the Hammers are now making moves to sign Calvert-Lewin.

The 28-year-old has rejected a new contract at Goodison Park, and it is claimed that West Ham are prepared to better his current £100k-a-week salary.

As a result, West Ham made contact with Everton on Friday (13 June) to gauge the situation regarding the attacker.

West Ham were offered the striker for £35million last summer, but David Sullivan rejected the transfer due to Calvert-Lewin’s fitness concerns.

However, with the striker available on a free, and Potter seeing the 28-year-old as Antonio’s “ideal replacement”, the addition will have now saved the East London club £35m.

That goes to show just how crazy Everton’s valuation was 12 months ago, and Sullivan was justified in holding off.

Calvert-Lewin will be sensational at West Ham if injury issues can be overcome

It wasn’t too long ago that Calvert-Lewin was one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

In the 2020/21 campaign, the 28-year-old netted 21 times in all competitions and was rewarded with a place in the 2020 Euros squad.

However, since then, he has only scored 18 goals in his last four campaigns as he struggles with injuries.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled to score in recent years

If this can finally be overcome, Potter could turn Calvert-Lewin into one of the deadliest strikers in England once again and end West Ham’s awful attacking output.

Hopefully, this will happen at the London Stadium next season as the attacker could be one of the biggest bargains of all-time.
