Manchester United have reportedly held talks over a move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
Ruben Amorim is keen to add a new striker to his options following a dismal showing from duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who managed just seven goals and an assist altogether in the Premier League last term.
The Red Devils have already landed former Wolverhampton Wanderers star Mathues Cunha in a £62.5 million deal, but are expected to add additional players to the forwards department later this summer, and Ekitike is among their targets.
The Frenchman could be on the move
Speaking to his YouTube channel, Romano noted that Manchester United had opened talks with the agents of Ekitike ahead of a potential move this summer, as they look to bolster their squad after a poor 2024/25 season.
Ekitike, previously hailed as "elite" and likened to Mbappe, scored a career-best 22 goals in all competitions last campaign, serving up another 12 assists in the process. Frankfurt are reluctant to part ways with the 22-year-old, but they understand that interest in his signature is looming.
The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with a move, alongside Manchester United, but an asking price in the region of €100 million (£85 million) is expected to deter suitors.

United have also been credited with interest in Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres, who could arrive for a more affordable fee with the Portuguese outlet prepared to let go of the talisman for £60 million. However, it is believed the Swedish international is holding out for a move toArsenal, and a switch to Old Trafford has been deemed "unlikely" by Romano as a result.
