Manchester United’s striker search remains a pressing concern heading into the 2025-26 season.

Having missed out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, United are continuing to assess proven attacking options with the physicality and goal threat to lead their line.

Fans continue to wait for a striker who can provide competition to the struggling Rasmus Hojlund.

Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have emerged throughout the year as two key names under consideration.

Both are known to be seen as ready-made upgrades to help sharpen United’s frontline.

Gyokeres in particular has been linked to Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at the club.

Especially after scoring 54 goals this season for Sporting CP across domestic and European competitions.

However, according to Portuguese outlet Record, Arsenal have now pulled out of a deal to sign Gyokeres.

Record’s report states that Arsenal are said to be refusing to meet Sporting’s €80 million demands.

The Gunners had been the frontrunners for the 27-year-old, particularly due to their Champions League qualification and interest from Mikel Arteta.

Especially after Saturday’s news, where it became clear that the North London side had made a fresh new bid to sign the Swede striker.

However, they have now changed focus.

Instead, Arsenal are prioritising RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins also monitored as a backup option.

This development could re-open the door for United, who have admired Gyokeres but were previously discouraged by the competition from Arsenal.

Sporting are believed to be firm on their €80m valuation.

With United’s budget already stretched by other targets, there’s a huge decision to be made.

Whether United reignite their interest or pivot elsewhere, the striker market continues to shift – and fast.
