Darwin Nunez could be packing his bags soon. And while most signs pointed toward a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, there’s a new twist in the tale.
Serie A giants (now champions), Napoli have now joined the race — and they might just sprint past the rest.
Nunez hasn’t had the smoothest ride at Anfield. Since his arrival from Benfica in 2022, the Uruguayan forward has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled to find consistency. After just five Premier League goals last season, the noise around his future only grew louder.
Liverpool fans had almost accepted the idea of him heading to the Saudi Pro League. Al-Ittihad and other clubs were lurking, cash in hand. But now, Napoli have entered the scene — and they aren’t just browsing.

Why Napoli wants Darwin Nunez?
Reports (Corriere dello Sport) suggest Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna sees Nunez as a perfect fit for new manager Antonio Conte’s plans. The Italian side have made contact, and talks are expected to heat up soon.
That’s not great news for Saudi clubs hoping to seal an easy deal. And it gives Nunez a real chance to stay in European football, which could be better for his growth and visibility.
Fabrizio Romano made things clear this week. “Darwin Nunez remains guaranteed exit at Liverpool this summer… Napoli have made contact in recent days with Nunez on the shortlist and more talks to follow soon.”
That’s not the kind of language you use unless a move is near. And with Liverpool setting the price around £60 million, Napoli will need to move fast and firm to hijack what looked like a done deal elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot is rebuilding the Reds his way. With Nunez likely to leave and new faces coming in, Liverpool’s summer is heating up faster than a last-minute winner at Anfield.
