Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton future remains up in the air.

Calvert-Lewin’s Everton contract expires on 30 June, and negotiations over a new deal have stalled.

Now, as a rival Premier League club prepares to offer the striker improved terms, it seems his days on Merseyside are numbered.

West Ham prepared to offer Calvert-Lewin improved terms

It has seemed like Calvert-Lewin would run his contract down for a while.

Now, according to a Football Transfers (14 June) report, the Hammers approached Everton on Friday (13 June) to gauge whether their star man was ready to sign a new deal.

The answer to that question is seemingly no, and now the East London side is readying a contract offer worth more than the £100,000-a-week he is already earning at Everton.

Calvert-Lewin has been coy about his Everton future for some time, but now it appears the writing is on the wall

England international Calvert-Lewin had been linked with moves to Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester United, but it appears West Ham are frontrunners to sign the former England international.

If he does leave, it would end his nine-year spell at Everton. The Sheffield-born striker made his debut for the club at age 19.

Everton are right to hold firm in Calvert-Lewin negotiations

It’s always sad when a club loses a home-grown player after many successful years, particularly when it’s on a free transfer.

In many ways, the Calvert-Lewin situation mirrors the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga over in the red half of Liverpool.

The difference is, Calvert-Lewin has seemingly been hanging on in the hope that Everton will offer him a contract similar to his current one. Perhaps he has even been asking for more money.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin statistics for Everton

If that’s the case, Everton are right to stand firm.

Based on what he has delivered in the last few seasons, Calvert-Lewin is not worth £100,000 a week.

If West Ham want to offer him more than, more fool them. The striker will be laughing all the way to the bank.

They might get a renaissance of the Calvert-Lewin who was firing on all cylinders five years ago, but it’s one heck of a gamble.

It seems now that Everton will have to look elsewhere to find a talismanic number nine. So be it. Better that than offering a huge deal to an injury-prone forward who hasn’t earned it.
