Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has named five players who have improved since he took over as the manager of the club last year. He named Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, and Noni Madueke, among such players.
Maresca took over as the Blues' boss last summer after they parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino. In his first season at the club, he won the UEFA Europa Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League. They are now set to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.
In an interview with the club's website, Enzo Maresca spoke about the improvement some of the players have made under him. He said (via Chelsea News):
“I’ve said many times that you can improve the team if you improve players. I have seen since we started that the players are improving, and that is the most important thing. Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, so many of these players are getting better and better.”
All five players were crucial in helping Chelsea have a successful 2024-25 season. Moises Caicedo was even voted the club's Players' Player of the Season and the Player of the Season.
Enzo Maresca says he has also improved during his first season with Chelsea
In an exclusive interview with Chelsea, Enzo Maresca said that not only his players but he also has developed throughout the 2024-25 season. He said:
"I feel I have developed a lot. It was a fantastic season as I learned a lot day by day and game by game. None of it was a surprise because I have worked in England for many years, first at West Ham and also at Manchester City. But for sure, with the amount of games we played, every one was an opportunity to learn things about myself and the team."
He added:
"What was a fantastic feeling for me was in the moment of the season we struggled, I saw the players continuing to work in the same way; they were continuing to work in the way we had done from the moment we started.
"It is very easy to change when you don't get results, very easy to drop or change. But the players could smell the right things, and they could see the direction was the right one."
Maresca was Pep Guardiola's assistant manager at Manchester City for the 2022-23 season. He then joined Leicester City as head coach and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League before moving to Chelsea.
