David de Gea has received support from three Manchester United players after his latest update on social media.
The Spaniard left Old Trafford at the end of his contract in 2023 after over a decade in Manchester. De Gea made a club record 545 appearances for a goalkeeper in United colours, winning five major trophies since joining in 2011.
But after a difficult 2022/23 season in which he made several high-profile errors, the United icon departed, with the then Reds boss Erik ten Hag choosing to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as his replacement. The Spanish shot-stopper endured a frustrating period after leaving United, having failed to find a new club until he joined Italian Serie A side Fiorentina last summer.
De Gea enjoyed a positive first season in Italy with several strong performances for the Serie A side, particularly in Europe, where they reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals - losing out to Antony's Real Betis over two legs.
And the 34-year-old is now enjoying a well-deserved holiday with his wife, the Spanish singer Edurne. De Gea has posted several pictures on his Instagram, alongside the caption: "Simple moments, forever memories," in Spanish.
His post has received several likes from United players - past and present. Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez have been among the current stars to show their support, as well as ex-Reds players Robin van Persie and Juan Mata.
De Gea is set for an emotional return to Old Trafford this summer when United face Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly.
The Reds begin their pre-season against Leeds in Stockholm on July 19 before flying to the United States for games against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
Ruben Amorim’s side will then return to M16 to play Fiorentina on August 9 before the Premier League begins again on August 16. That match against Fiorentina will see De Gea return to his old stomping ground, where he is sure to get a warm reception from United supporters.
