The Friedkin Group are gearing up to support David Moyes ahead of a pivotal summer at Everton.

The Americans took over as major shareholders of Everton in December last year and have vowed to invest heavily in a bid to return the Toffees to their former glories.

They were instrumental in bringing Moyes back to Everton and have committed to his project as the Merseyside club transitions to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And a recent update proves that The Friedkin Group are making crucial inroads to support Moyes.

James Smith to leave Manchester City and join Everton

Moyes is desperate to add more firepower to his squad. As a result, Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Jack Grealish.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The deal looks to have taken a positive step as David Ornstein reported via X on Thursday (12 June) that Manchester City’s director of scouting and recruitment, James Smith, is set to leave his role this summer.

Smith is set to rejoin Everton and link up with Moyes, with whom he worked closely during the Scotsman’s first stint at the Merseyside club.

The deal is seen as a big coup for the Toffees and will only work to accelerate their pursuit of City’s out-of-favour England international Grealish, as well as his teammate James McAtee.

A former colleague of Smith, Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes Smith’s return will be beneficial to the club and proves that TFG are willing to meet Moyes’ demands.

“Smith was at Everton when I joined the club,” King said.

“I spent six and a half years working with him. He’s very knowledgeable and very well-organised. This is someone who spent a long time working with Moyes at Everton the first time.

“The two of them shared a very close relationship. Smith never played the game at a high level, but he knows the game inside out.

“I would have thought Moyes would have wanted Smith to return, and The Friedkin Group have met his demands. Moyes would have been looking for someone whom he knows he can trust. This will be a beneficial appointment, that is for sure.

“This is a big year for Everton; they need to stabilise themselves in the top half of the league.”

TFG’s commitment will help Moyes

Moyes, 62, is the Premier League’s oldest and most experienced manager, having overseen 716 games in the English top flight to date.

He has plenty of pedigree, but he has been most successful in his career when he has been properly backed and given leeway to oversee multiple aspects of the club’s operation.

TFG have already publicly backed the former West Ham manager, although they are yet to make any signings this summer.

However, the arrival of a close ally in Smith not only shows their commitment but will ultimately help their main man thrive at the club he is best associated with.
