After Steve Cooper was fired, the former Manchester United striker was appointed manager of the East Midlands team in November.
After Erik ten Hag left, van Nistelrooy took over as caretaker manager at Old Trafford, but he left when Ruben Amorim took over.
In an attempt to improve on the previous campaign, Erik ten Hag’s redesigned coaching staff brought the Manchester United veteran back to Old Trafford last summer.
But because of the team’s ongoing bad performance, ten Hag was fired after just three months, and van Nistelrooy was asked to take over as interim manager.
He only took over for a few games but it was a short reign in which he was successful for.
This short reign helped land him the Leicester City job.
Although the Dutchman had a successful stint with PSV, his tenure at Leicester has not been at all like that.
Since the Foxes are now unable to accumulate enough points to move out of the bottom three, they have officially been demoted, having failed to achieve this goal.
Since van Nistelrooy took over, the team has only won two Premier League games, and in April, it was formally declared that they will be relegated to the Championship.
With his exit, it opens new opportunities for his coaching staff.
And it has now been confirmed that one of his assistant coaches has gotten a head coach role elsewhere.

As per Fabrizio Romano via X, Brian Barry-Murphy will sign in as new Cardiff City manager on Monday.
In December, Brian Barry-Murphy left Manchester City to work as the Dutchman’s assistant at Leicester City.
The 46-year-old, who worked in Man City’s youth staff and received accolades from Pep Guardiola, came to Leicestershire as a highly regarded coach.
But now that van Nistelrooy’s assistant is packing his bags and heading out, it undoubtedly puts a great deal of pressure on his future as well.
Perhaps the uncertainty around the Foxes going into this summer, as well as the club’s current position on van Nistelrooy as a major decision looms, is highlighted by Barry-Murphy’s impending move to Cardiff.
