£85m target would be Man United's fastest player after clocking electric 35.5km/h speed

Manchester United’s latest transfer target would add plenty of speed and intensity to Ruben Amorim’s side.

Ineos have wasted no time getting stuck into Manchester United’s transfer business this summer after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.

Matheus Cunha arrived in a £62.5m deal from Wolves as the first major signing of the season, while Ineos remain in talks with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.

Ruben Amorim often cut a frustrated figure last season as United lacked quality in front of goal. Ahead of the summer, Amorim said United must add intensity to their squad through their transfer business, and both Cunha and Mbeumo would certainly inject extra energy.

But United’s latest target would immediately take the crown as the club’s fastest player based on his top speed from last season.

Hugo Ekitike would be Man United’s fastest player

In the search for a new striker, United are accelerating talks for Hugo Ekitike with Viktor Gyokeres looking more likely to join either Arsenal or Juventus.

At 22 years old, Ekitike represents a long-term signing and a player for both the present and the future.

Ekitike is available for £85m this summer after his impressive performances this season and while that would be a big financial risk, there are plenty of promising signs.

Playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, Ekitike outshone Harry Kane and Florian Wirtz when it comes to the number of shots taken in the Bundesliga – he would certainly add threat to United’s front line.

Impressively, Ekitike also clocked a top speed of 35.53 km/h in the 2024/25 season as per his Bundesliga profile.

How Hugo Ekitike compares to Man United’s fastest players

United’s squad is not exactly blessed with pace with Casemiro one of the slowest in the Premier League last season.

There was huge excitement around Rasmus Hojlund’s pace when he first arrived at Old Trafford, and he is certainly in the conversation for being the club’s quickest player.

However, Premier League statistics from early last season recorded Alejandro Garnacho as United’s fastest star just ahead of Marcus Rashford.

Garnacho clocked in at 35.48 km/h, while Rashford followed just behind with a speed of 35.35 km/h.

However, that means that Ekitike’s top speed in the Bundesliga would make him the fastest player at Carrington next season if he makes a big-money move this summer.
