Report: Moyes handed lifeline over £25m Everton target as transfer rivals with £100m to burn…

Everton manager David Moyes may have received a boost today, with a club eyeing a potential alternative transfer target.

Fans are hoping to see some transfer activity soon, with Carlos Alcaraz the only signing so far this summer.

Alcaraz, of course, has been with the club since January though, having been on loan from Flamengo. So for most Everton fans he does not feel like a new player.

One man Everton have supposedly had eyes on recently is James McAtee, who is all but certain to leave Manchester City this summer.

McAtee isn’t in City’s Club World Cup, and the feeling is that he’ll move on in search of the regular game time he can’t currently get under Pep Guardiola.

Everton are in the frame, and one new development may be good news.

As we know, interest in McAtee is very high.

He’s a talented player, who could be playing regularly for plenty of other clubs.

It was claimed a few days ago that Bayer Leverkusen were set to actually bid for McAtee, who is valued at around £25 million.

But the Daily Mail has reported the German outfit are actually now looking at swooping for Justin Kluivert from Bournemouth, after the Dutchman had an outstanding season.

They apparently see him as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz, who is about to be sold to Liverpool for an initial £100 million (BBC Sport).

Interestingly, Leverkusen are now managed by Erik ten Hag, who has previously crossed paths with Kluivert at Ajax.

Still lots of work to do for Everton to sign McAtee

Interest in McAtee is still plentiful, but this is still a minor boost for David Moyes.

Because Leverkusen have been mentioned with regards to McAtee quite a lot in recent weeks. So to potentially have them dipping out of the race would be good news.

Everton should strongly consider making a big push for McAtee.

We all saw how Cole Palmer thrived once he left City after he couldn’t get the game time he needed.

Perhaps it’s a slightly different case with McAtee, but he’s still a huge English talent regardless, and a player who would make things happen in and around the final third.

He would certainly be a much cheaper alternative to Jack Grealish, who is another Manchester City player Everton want to sign.
