Newcastle United and Arsenal are set to go head to head in their efforts to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the race to sign the 24-year-old amid never-ending speculation.
The FA Cup-winning Palace captain’s future remains an open race as things stand with no clear front-runner as both Newcastle and Arsenal weigh up moves.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 5 May that Newcastle are preparing a move for Guehi and have retained their strong interest.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in February that Arsenal and Liverpool have joined the race for Guehi – and both sides are keeping tabs on his situation.
The England international wants to play regularly at the highest level, with a starting place under Thomas Tuchel at the 2026 World Cup at the front of his mind.

Marc Guehi race hots up as Newcastle and Arsenal plot moves
Brown told Football Insider in February that Palace have begun planning to replace Guehi as they accept he will leave at the end of the season.
As he enters the final year of his deal, the centre-back will not rush into a decision as any deal will largely depend on where he sees his long-term future.
O’Rourke explained that the deal will also be decided by the fee either Newcastle or Arsenal are willing to pay with Palace planning to cash in.
“*It looks like another window with lots of speculation about Marc Guehi,*” he told Football Insider.
“He’s now into the final year of his contract, so if Crystal Palace aren’t able to persuade him to sign a new deal, this is one of their last chances to cash in.
“Right now, I wouldn’t say there are any clear favourites for him. I think it’s an open race.
“We know Newcastle are long-term admirers, so I’m sure they’ll be monitoring the situation.
“Arsenal have also shown a bit of interest as well.
“A lot of it will come down to the player and what he wants to do.
“If he was to go to Arsenal, there’s no guarantee that he would be a regular starter, and that might not be what Guehi wants especially heading into a World Cup year.
“That’s something that’s going to play a part.
“Liverpool have looked at Guehi in the past as well, but they’re looking at other areas of the side.
“Guehi, if he’s going to leave Crystal Palace, it will be to a club offering him the chance to play in the Champions League and Newcastle and Arsenal will offer that.
“It could come down to the fees they are willing to pay because the player will not rush into a decision.”

Anthony Elanga update emerges at St James’ Park
Guehi is not the only long-term target being pursued by the Magpies this summer, as they also remain keen on a move to sign Anthony Elanga.
Football Insider revealed on 15 June that Nottingham Forest have told Newcastle their new valuation for the Sweden international ahead of the transfer window.
Last summer, the Magpies saw a £35million offer turned down, and they have now been told they must make a bid of at least £50million to land the winger.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 11 June that Newcastle could step up their interest in Elanga after failing in their pursuit of Man United-bound Bryan Mbeumo.
