Man Utd face Alejandro Garnacho nightmare with Erik ten Hag unlikely to help old club out

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho's priority is to stay in the Premier League this summer according to reports. The forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after a rollercoaster of a campaign under Ruben Amorim, and his availability has not gone unnoticed around Europe.

Garnacho made 58 appearances for the Red Devils last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists. However, he struggled to see eye to eye with Amorim throughout the campaign, hitting out at his manager after playing just 19 minutes in the Europa League final – a competition that he featured heavily in prior.

All parties appear to have agreed that a summer transfer is the best course of action, and Garnacho is now assessing his options. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old has made remaining in the Premier League his priority over the coming months.

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have already registered an interest in signing Garnacho, with their new manager – the ex-Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag - making his admiration of the forward clear. A move to the German side, however, is described as complicated due to the finances involved. Garnacho could cost £70m and Leverkusen's record signing was only £27m.

United will be hoping to offload Garnacho sooner rather than later given that any funds raised can be used to bring in a marquee replacement. Though they may also be fearful of where the Argentina international heads.

The winger has shown on countless occasions in seasons gone by that he has an immense level of raw talent, and if one of their rivals is able to help him realise his potential, they could come to regret letting him leave in the future.

Some at United would no doubt prefer to sell the No.17 abroad so that his development does not directly impact United. But a move to Leverkusen looks unlikely at this stage. Napoli are another club who could firm up interest in the player.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of the forward and considered making a late move for the South American in the January transfer window, whereas Arsenal have also been linked. Both London sides are in the market for reinforcements out wide this summer, though neither appear to be prioritising a move for Garnacho at present. But it seems the player himself would relish a chance to join either club.
