Ruben Amorim is preparing an experimental position change for a few Manchester United players next season.
Hired in November last year, Ruben Amorim had the near-impossible task of trying to change Manchester United’s style of play and implement a new formation.
Amorim stubbornly stuck to his tactics even in the face of fierce criticism, suggesting it will set the Red Devils up for a better 2025/26.
While players such as Alejandro Garnacho struggled to adapt and find a place in Amorim’s side, others such as Amad Diallo thrived in a new position under the Portuguese coach.
Next season, Amad is expected to play at wing-back in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 line-up, with Matheus Cunha and potentially Bryan Mbeumo brought in to play as a No.10.

Mason Mount set for new position change at Man United
There are several ways for United to line up with Cunha following his £62.5m arrival, but his signing pushes the likes of Mason Mount down Amorim’s pecking order.
Or at least it does for the two No.10 positions up front. Amorim has been full of praise for Mount since arriving in Manchester, but there is no doubt that he faces fierce competition for a starting spot.
If United can get a deal finalised, then Mbeumo’s arrival would threaten Mount’s position, but Amorim has planned ahead and is ready to experiment with United’s No.7 in a new position.

Reports suggest Mount could be used as a central midfielder next season, making the most of his athleticism and energy in the middle of the park.
United have been in the market for a new central midfielder but Ineos missed out on Jobe Bellingham after he chose to join Borussia Dortmund instead.
Mount’s inspired positional change could save United millions in the market if he is able to create a solid partnership with the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.
How Man United could line up with Mason Mount in midfield
With Mount set for a switch into a deeper midfield role, it opens up a few options for Amorim with his starting lineup.
Ugarte specialises in breaking up play and winning possession back for United, making him a perfect midfield partner for Mount, who is also strong out of possession but would thrive carrying the ball through to the final third.
It leaves Casemiro and Mainoo as two other midfield options which should be enough for a season without any European football.

If Mount drops back, it frees up captain Bruno Fernandes to play further forward alongside a central striker. Whether that is Rasmus Hojlund or another centre-forward is yet to be seen.
Amorim believes Mount is ‘perfect’ for his system and he has the chance to prove it next season.
