Most NFL teams have completed mandatory minicamp, while others will do so in the coming week.
We're entering a six-week period of reflection for teams to consider their 90-man offseason rosters and which direction they want to go.
While the San Francisco 49ers are busy making tweaks to the roster before training camp begins, other teams are doing the same, and at least one former 49ers player is now looking for a new home.
The New York Jets announced on Thursday that they are waiving former San Francisco cornerback Tre Swilling.
The 26-year-old Swilling spent all of last season on the Jets' practice squad and appeared in one game in the season finale in Week 18 in the 32-20 win over the Dolphins. Swilling appeared in three special-teams plays.
Swilling played collegiately for Georgia Tech and went undrafted in 2022.
He spent time that offseason with the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints before landing in San Francisco in December, where he was signed to the practice squad.
Swilling signed a reserve/futures contract before being waived the following August, then was re-signed to the practice squad.
The former Yellowjackets was elevated to the active roster after an injury to corner Samuel Womack. Swilling was active for two games and appeared on special teams.
With the experience level Swilling has he shouldn't have a hard time landing on his feet on a practice squad somewhere, but as the summer grows shorter, he'll be hoping to land on a 53-man roster come September.
