Arsenal are hoping to sign a contract extension with Myles Lewis-Skelly amid interest from Real Madrid. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are keen on offering an extension to the 18-year-old.
Lewis-Skelly, who emerged as Arsenal's breakout star last season, performed well as a left-back. Despite playing as a midfielder in his academy days, the Englishman has reinvented himself as a full-back, which also earned him a senior England call-up under Thomas Tuchel.
Last season, he made 39 appearances for the Gunners' senior team across all competitions. He also recorded goal contributions against the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City. However, his current contract with the north London club expires next summer.
As a result, Real Madrid have shown interest in signing him as they view him as a long-term acquisition who can develop into a quality defender. However, the Gunners are reluctant to lose ground and let the Englishman leave.
As per the aforementioned report, Arsenal are confident about a contract renewal. Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel (via GIVEMESPORT):
"Behind the scenes, it's important to mention one thing. First point, Real Madrid are always attentive to opportunities. This is Real Madrid's style. It's normal to be informed, but my information is that Arsenal are very calm, very relaxed, very confident and optimistic to get a new deal done for Lewis-Skelly."
Myles Lewis-Skelly has been part of the north London club since 2015, having also played for the youth sides.
Arsenal get a major boost in the race to sign Chelsea target: Reports
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are interested in signing Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. The Dutch defender is in high demand, having also been linked to Chelsea since May. However, the Gunners have received a major boost in their pursuit of the Dutchman.
Transfer talks between Chelsea and the Dutch outfit have been stalled due to the FIFA Club World Cup, which is being held in the United States. As a result, the Blues are expected to continue talks over a potential move for Hato after the tournament ends.
In the meantime, the Gunners are aiming to capitalise on the pause to make progress. They held talks with the 19-year-old's representatives in the last few days. Moreover, the north London club has been in contact with Hato for the last two years, and agreeing on personal terms with the Dutchman wouldn't be a problem.
However, Jorrel Hato is unlikely to rule out Chelsea's offer, considering the Blues' plans include a team filled with young players.
