Manchester United have reportedly opened contact with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, with it becoming increasingly likely that Andre Onana departs this summer, as per Argentine journalist Leo Paradizo.
The Red Devils' boss Ruben Amorim is keen to revamp his goalkeeping department after seeing some poor performances from his current options over the course of the 2024/25 season.
Now, United could be in pole position to land one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Martinez if they are able to find a suitor for Onana.
Onana is set to leave this summer
As per Paradizo, Manchester United have told Martinez that they wish to make him their first-choice between the sticks heading into the 2025/26 season, which means Onana is set to head to the club's egress.
GIVEMESPORT sources understand that Aston Villa are expected to sell Martinez this summer due to financial difficulties inflicted by a lack of Champions League football for next season. A fee close to the £30 million mark is believed to be enough to sanction a sale for the "world-class" shot-stopper.
Turkish outfit Galatasaray were also keen on landing Martinez, but reports suggest the Argentinian international is eager to wait on a proposal from Manchester United as his priority.
