Arsenal are pushing forward with intent in the transfer market as they actively pursue two of Europe’s most sought-after strikers — Viktor Gyökeres and Benjamin Šeško. While it is understood that the Gunners do not plan to sign both players, newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta is keeping all options open and has already held advanced discussions over potential deals for each.
The club’s hunt for a new number nine has become one of the defining narratives of their summer window. After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, Mikel Arteta and Berta have made upgrading Arsenal’s attacking firepower a top priority. With both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz failing to consistently deliver goals through the middle, Arsenal are now looking for a more clinical and physically imposing presence up front.
Benjamin Šeško, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig forward, has long been admired at the Emirates. His blend of size, speed, and technical ability makes him an ideal long-term fit for Arsenal’s system, and his age aligns perfectly with the club’s strategy of building a young, elite core. Negotiations with Leipzig have been ongoing, with the German club demanding a fee in the region of €65–€70 million to part ways with the Slovenian striker.
However, Arsenal are not putting all their eggs in one basket.
Viktor Gyökeres, fresh off a prolific campaign at Sporting CP, remains firmly in the picture. The Swedish forward has drawn significant interest after scoring freely in Portugal, and Arsenal have already been in contact with his representatives. Berta has been leading the talks, ensuring that the club stays well-positioned should a deal for Šeško hit any late hurdles.
Despite their pursuit of both targets, sources close to the club suggest Arsenal are only planning to sign **one** of them. The simultaneous discussions are part of Berta’s proactive approach — ensuring Arsenal have a high-quality option lined up no matter how negotiations unfold.
Ollie Watkins also remains a name under consideration. While the Aston Villa forward may be a less likely option due to his price tag and Villa’s reluctance to sell to a direct rival, Arsenal have not entirely ruled him out. Watkins is admired for his Premier League experience, versatility, and pressing ability — key traits that Arteta values in a forward.
With the transfer window just beginning to heat up, Arsenal are determined to get their marquee striker signing right. Both Gyökeres and Šeško are top-class options who offer different profiles — the former with his strength and relentlessness, the latter with his elegance, movement, and potential ceiling.
Andrea Berta’s methodical yet aggressive approach in talks has given Arsenal a strong negotiating platform. Now it’s about finalising the right deal, at the right time, for the striker who will lead the line in 2025 and beyond.
